Ronald L. Walker II, Interim Executive Director, is a nationally acclaimed business leader with a distinguished record across both the public and private sectors. Renowned for his expertise in corporate strategy, government relations, banking and finance, private equity, procurement, and strategic planning, Mr. Walker brings more than 30 years of senior executive experience to his role. His career includes leadership as a high-level banker, successful business owner, and strategic consultant with deep and sustained impact in economic and workforce development.
As Founder and CEO of The Walker Group Strategic Consultants, Mr. Walker continues to provide strategic guidance and facilitate access to growth capital for businesses, entrepreneurs, and nonprofits. His results-driven, innovative approach has earned him a reputation as a transformative leader.
In 2015, Governor Charlie Baker appointed Mr. Walker as Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Under his leadership, the state achieved a historic milestone—reducing the unemployment rate to a record low of 2.8%. He oversaw five workforce agencies, chaired the Commonwealth Corporation, and led key initiatives as Chair of the Governor’s Workforce Skills Cabinet and Co-Chair of the State Procurement Committee.
Previously, Mr. Walker co-founded and served as President of Next Street Financial, LLC, a nationally recognized merchant bank focused on strategic advisory services and expanding access to capital. His corporate background also includes senior executive roles at Fleet Financial Group and Sovereign Bank. Mr. Walker’s leadership has been recognized through numerous awards from organizations including UNCF, the American Diabetes Association, the Greater Boston Morehouse College Alumni Association, and the Boston Business Journal CEO of the Year.
