For more than 25 years, in federal, state, and local roles, and now as a consultant, Liza Veto has developed her skills to articulate complex problems, design creative solutions to those problems, and execute the day-to-day implementation strategies that ensure problems really get solved.
Following a career in federal public health policy, including as a liaison between the US Department of Education and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, from 2011-2017, Liza spent six years partnering with some of the most struggling schools and districts in Massachusetts. First, she managed the implementation of the state’s receivership efforts at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, working with the state’s first Level 5 districts and schools. Following her work at DESE, Liza served as the Director of Turnaround and Transformation for the Boston Public Schools. From 2017-2021, Liza was the Program Officer for Mass IDEAS (Innovating Design in Education for All Students), an incubator of high-quality, innovative public schools designed to transform learning for students across Massachusetts. Today, in addition to her consulting practice, Liza also serves as the board chair for Map Academy, an alternative charter high school founded on the belief that every student – no matter what their life circumstances – has unique strengths and the ability to succeed.
Liza holds a Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College, a Master of Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the Broad Center for the Management of School Systems.
